about

This track corresponds thematically with chapter three of the novel that accompanies this album and features Stuart Vandergraff on saxophones. With a strong intro arranged by Tamlin the song is about touring with a band and explores the idea of a one night stand but from a woman's point of view.

lyrics

3. One Night Stand

Well it’s such a strange city and I’m so far from home.
You know it’s such a pity that I feel so alone.
So I stand on the stage keep an eye on the floor,
Hoping that tonight’s the night you’ll walk through the door.

Don’t want no rough man,
No come on tough man.
Just want enough man,
To last me through the night.

Your eyes were blue and piercing and they held me across the room.
You walked mean and angular but you seemed so confused.
Like you were living out some image that didn’t quite ring true.
It made me kind of curious to know more about you.

Don’t want no rough man,
No come on tough man.
Just want enough man,
To last me through the night.

Later in the dressing room you smiled and said hello.
Your touch was gentle on my arm it just went to show.
That you weren’t no rough man,
No come on tough man.
You were just enough man,
To last me through the night.
